Sister Wives, season premiere at 9pm on TLC

– The controversial series about a real life polygamist family returns for a second season after a serious scare of facing criminal prosecution almost put a halt to the production and the family’s way of life. Cameras follow Kody Brown, his four wives Meri, Janelle, Christine and newcomer Robyn, and their combined 16 children living in Lehi, Utah as modern-day polygamists. The show highlights how they attempt to navigate life as a “normal” family in a society that shuns their lifestyle. From their unconventional family structure and living arrangements to financial challenges, each episode exposes the inner workings of a polygamist household, revealing the unexpectedly tight-knit and loving relationships between Kody’s wives. Season 1 chronicled the growing pains as Robyn and her kids assimilated into the family and the Sister Wives worked through the insecurities and uncertainties that are inevitable in their chosen way of life. In season 2, we follow the Browns as they experience the ups and downs of living a plural lifestyle, from their bold decision to “come out” as polygamists on national television to the changes brought on by their recently extended family. After the series premiere last fall, the Lehi police announced they were investigating the Browns for possible charges of polygamy but then the Utah Attorney General’s office announced it doesn’t have the resources to prosecute polygamists who have not committed serious crimes at this time, though they may still seek criminal charges against the Browns at a later date. Therefore, the Browns can keep bankrolling from this reality series that exposed their way of life and made them vulnerable to criminal prosecution.

Comedy Central Roast of Donald Trump, special from 10:30pm to midnight

– Commercials for this roast may have confused you into thinking it was actually a roast of Jersey Shore’s Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino but the special event is actually a roast of a much bigger fish with questionable hair and ill-placed presidential aspirations, the one and only Donald Trump. It’s easy to see why the likes of Larry King, Snoop Dogg, The Situation, comedian Jeffrey Ross, and roastmaster Seth MacFarlane would think its fun to roast Donald Trump and his hair. As for why Trump would subject himself to be roasted, well come on, he would never pass up any opportunity to shamelessly promote the Trump brand, duh.

Mad Love, series premiere at 8:30pm on CBS

– This new sitcom is about a quartet of New Yorkers – two who are falling in love and two who despise each other… at least for now. Ben (Jason Biggs, American Pie franchise), a lawyer, is a hopeless romantic trying to build a relationship with Kate (Sarah Chalke, Scrubs), a beautiful, smart girl whom Ben thinks is the woman of his dreams. They are perfect for each other but their best friends couldn’t hate each other more. The husky Larry (Tyler Labine, Sons of Tucson), Ben’s unrefined best friend and co-worker, is a guy who doesn’t believe in love and has a long track record as the third wheel. The sassy Connie (the hilarious Judy Greer, Arrested Development), Kate’s roommate, works as a nanny and finds Larry aggravating… or does she? Larry and Connie have a lot in common, but refuse to let their guard down long enough to see it. Although not an original concept, the star cast makes me believe this could end up being a pleasant and endearing show.

This season, George, Nina, and Mitchell leave the memories of their much-loved former house behind and settle into their new home – a kitschy B&B named Honolulu Heights in Wales that boasts many benefits for supernatural types, including a large basement providing safe haven on a full moon, for starters.

Craig Ferguson: Does This Need To Be Said?, comedy special at 8pm on EPIX

– Late, Late Show host Craig Ferguson, aka my favorite late night host ever, will deliver his one man stand-up show on the premium cable channel Epix. Known for his wry observational humor, the Emmy-nominated and Peabody award-winning Scotsman has broken rating records with his unconventional late night talk show that highlights his unique brand of humor. Ferguson will be cussing up a storm (censor free as it should be!) at Nashville’s Polk Theatre in this one-hour comedy special. Unfortunately, most of us will have to wait for the DVD release because we don’t get EPIX, for shame…

Traffic Light, series premiere at 9:30pm on FOX

– This new comedy highlights how friendships and romances – though often difficult and sometimes messy but always worth the work – both enhance and complicate our lives. The series centers on three longtime friends and their attempts to navigate the demands of their relationships, which seems like an exact copy of the hit CBS series Rules of Engagement. Mike (David Denman), Adam (Nelson Franklin), and Ethan (Kris Marshall) have been friends since college, and the trio has seen each other through highs and lows. Now in their 30s, these men find themselves at very different stages in their lives. Mike is a married lawyer who wants nothing more than to be a good family man to his wife, Lisa (Liza Lapira), and his young son, but he’s also desperately trying to carve out a little space for himself. Adam recently moved in with his girlfriend, Callie (Aya Cash), and is learning how vastly different “she comes over a lot” and “she lives with me” really are, especially when his girlfriend is an adventurous, straight-talking firecracker. Ethan is the perpetual bachelor. He loves women, and when he’s in, he’s all in – at least for three weeks. Charming, genuine and hopelessly independent, Ethan is finding out that as he gets older, the pool of women who are willing to take things day by day is rapidly evaporating. Luckily, he has Carl, his beloved, long-suffering bulldog.

Mr. Sunshine, series premiere at 9:30pm on ABC

– So the ABC Programming team thought it would be a good idea to put the already successful show from another Friends star (ahem Cougar Town) on hiatus to make room for the new Matthew Perry comedy in the coveted post-Modern Family time slot. I’m sorry ABC, but you are basically setting up Cougar Town for failure since the beginning of this year with its irregular schedule. Nobody knows when to tune in for a new episode, if it wasn’t for my Tivo Season Pass, I would be missing it altogether because I can’t keep up with the bizzare scheduling changes. But on to the new ABC comedy from the other Friends star… Matthew Perry stars as Ben Donovan, the self-involved general manager of the Sunshine Center, a sports arena, who every night navigates a never-ending series of bizarre requests, curious mishaps and employee screw ups to put on a show for 18,000 screaming people. Working alongside him is his boss and arena owner Crystal (Allison Janney, The West Wing), attractive, powerful and highly erratic; Alice (Andrea Anders, Better Off Ted) the cute, tomboyish marketing director and Ben’s friend with benefits; Alonzo, a former basketball player, handsome and unbelievably happy; Ben’s assistant, Heather, pretty, sweet, but terrifying because she once lit a boyfriend on fire; and Crystal’s son, Roman, sweet-faced, clueless and Ben’s newest employee.

Glamour Belles, series premiere at 10pm on Lifetime

Led by owner Paige Burcham Carlton, Joann’s experts help transform their stable of customers into modern day princesses with a healthy dose of Southern hospitality, hilarity and honesty that can only be found at the venerable store. Behind the rhinestones and ruffles, the unique cast of characters includes its flamboyant store manager Jared, brash assistant manager Nikki, naive salesgirl Brooke, melodramatic seamstress Stephanie and the store’s original owner Joann, Paige’s outspoken mother.

Justified, season premiere at 10pm on FX

– The critically acclaimed drama series follows U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant), a tough, sexy, southern-bred but soft-spoken federal lawman, as he enforces his own brand of at-times extralegal justice after his reassignment to Kentucky. Fresh off the epic gun battle that concluded season one, season two of Justified finds Bo Crowder dead, and the Crowder criminal grip on Harlan County broken. Deputy Raylan Givens must now face off against the criminal organizations that are moving to fill the void, and finds himself entangled once again with the mercurial Boyd Crowder (played by the brilliant Walton Goggins).
