The Voice, season premiere at 8pm on NBC

The Voice returns with the strongest vocalists from across the country invited to compete in the blockbuster vocal competition show’s fifth season. Celebrity musicians and original coaches Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green and Blake Shelton all return, while Carson Daly continues to serve as host. The show’s innovative format features four stages of competition: the blind auditions, the battle rounds, the knockouts and, finally, the live performance shows. During the blind auditions, the decisions from the musician coaches are based solely on voice and not on looks. During the battle rounds, the coaches will pit two of their own team members against each other to sing the same song together in front of a studio audience. At the end of the battles, only the strongest members of each coach’s roster remain and proceed to the knockout rounds. In the final live performance phase of the competition, the top artists from each team will compete each week against each other during a live broadcast. The television audience will vote to save their favorite artists, and the two artists with the lowest number of votes will be sent home each week. In the end, one will be named The Voice and will receive the grand prize of a recording contract.

This ninth and final season we’ll see how each of the gang meets The Mother. Sophisticated Caroline Channing is an uptown trust fund princess who’s having a run of bad luck that forces her to reluctantly give waitressing a shot. At first, Max sees Caroline as yet another in a long line of inept servers she must cover for, but she’s surprised to find that Caroline has as much substance as she does style. When Caroline discovers Max’s knack for baking amazing cupcakes, she sees a lucrative future for them, but first they need to raise the start-up money. While they save their tips, they’ll stay at the restaurant, working with Oleg, an overly flirtatious Russian cook; Earl, a 75-year-old kool-kat cashier; and Han Lee, the new, eager-to-please owner of the diner. Castle, season premiere at 10pm on ABC

– When viewers first met Richard Castle – a famous mystery novelist and divorced father raising his teenage daughter, while being kept grounded by his Broadway diva mother – he was creatively blocked. But when the NYPD questioned him in connection with a series of murders staged to imitate crime scenes from his books, Castle found inspiration in Detective Kate Beckett, a bright and aggressive homicide cop with a fascination for odd and offbeat cases stemming from the years-old unsolved murder of her own mother. Last season Castle and Beckett tried to keep their new relationship a secret as they learn the man responsible for Johanna Beckett’s murder is the powerful Senator Bracken. The mystery man and his muse hit a crossroads when Beckett got an incredible job offer in DC. Wanting more out of their relationship, Castle got down on one knee to ask his partner to marry him in the season finale cliffhanger. The long wait to hear Beckett’s response will end in the Season 6 Premiere.

The Blacklist, series premiere at 10pm on NBC

– For decades, ex-government agent Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader, The Office, Boston Legal) has been one of the FBI’s most wanted fugitives. Brokering shadowy deals for criminals across the globe, Red was known by many as “The Concierge of Crime.” Now, he’s mysteriously surrendered to the FBI with an explosive offer: He will help catch a long-thought-dead terrorist, Ranko Zamani, under the condition that he speaks only to Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone, Law & Order: Los Angeles), an FBI profiler fresh out of Quantico. For Liz, it’s going to be one hell of a first day on the job. What follows is a twisting series of events as the race to stop a terrorist begins. What are Red’s true intentions? Why has he chosen Liz, a woman with whom he seemingly has no connection? Does Liz have secrets of her own? Zamani is only the first of many on a list that Red has compiled over the years: a “blacklist” of politicians, mobsters, spies and international terrorists. He will help catch them all… with the caveat that Liz continues to work as his partner. Red will teach Liz to think like a criminal to “see the bigger picture” – whether she wants to or not.

With her family’s life in peril, Ellen faces an incomprehensible moral dilemma in order to save her overbearing husband Brian, her secretive daughter Morgan and her not-so-innocent son Jake. In this high-stakes standoff between Ellen and Carlisle, fraught with tremendous national and personal consequences, the choices between right and wrong become even more blurred.
