Boardwalk Empire, series premiere at 9pm on HBO

– Steve Buscemi stars in this Prohibition drama set in Atlantic City from Martin Scorsese and The Sopranos producer Terence Winter. Everything is for sale in America in the 1920s. Atlantic City is “The World’s Playground,” a place where rules don’t apply. For a few dollars, a working man can get away and live like a king—legally or illegally. The undisputed ruler of Atlantic City is the town’s Treasurer, Enoch “Nucky” Thompson (Buscemi), a political fixer and backroom dealer who is equal parts politician and gangster and equally comfortable in either role. Along with his brother Elias, the town’s Sheriff, and a crew of Ward Bosses and local thugs, Nucky carves out a niche for himself as the man to see for any illegal alcohol.

Fantasia For Real, season premiere at 10pm on VH1

– American Idol Season 3 Winner Fantasia Barrino was out of the game for a while. Two and a half years to be exact. And the rumor mill was working overtime: foreclosure, diva behavior, dropped by her label, fired by her management, dumped by “The Color Purple.” It was an awesome burden to bear, especially for a 24-year-old rags to riches success story who was single-handedly supporting a family of six while struggling to rebuild her career. But what a difference a year made. Now Fantasia is back in the game—for real. She’s releasing her first new album in three years and she’s determined not to blow it. Her free-loading family is finally out of the house but the threat of everyone returning to her nest is always looming. Look out world. Fantasia is a Phoenix reborn and a force to be reckoned with. But just last month she had a failed suicide attempt. Is all the pressure of rebooting her career too much to bear? I guess we’ll have to tune in to find out.
