The 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards, 8-11pm on NBC

Late Night host Jimmy Fallon hosts the Emmy awards for the first time. Following Neil Patrick Harris’ brilliant stint as host last year, can Fallon bring the goods or will his performance be a ratings disappointment? Old timer 30 Rock is up against hit freshman shows Glee and Modern Family who lead the nominations in the comedy categories. Can 2-time back-to-back Emmy winner Mad Men hold strong against newcomer The Good Wife in the drama categories? Will Lost get some Emmy-love as a farewell gift? Will there finally be a break in the dreadful monotony of the reality categories? DOUBTFUL. I am still angry about the nominations in the reality categories because they were picked out of habit rather than anybody actually watching the show. How on earth could Project Runway and American Idol’s trainwreck seasons possibly be Emmy worthy?!? STILL IN SHOCK. Ugh but that’s what the Emmy’s always are, a few highs but mostly just a nauseous rollercoaster ride of WTF?!

Changing Lanes, series premiere at 8pm on BET

– It is no secret that NASCAR is the second most popular sport in the US. The popularity of this fast-paced sport has grown to include a more diverse fan-base than ever before – 40% of fans are women while 1 in 5 is minority. While there is definitely a multi-cultural curiosity about NASCAR, it still lacks a notable presence of women and minorities. Changing Lanes promises to tackle this issue head-on. This new competition series will chronicle NASCAR’s search for the next female or minority driving sensation. Viewers will learn about these 10 prospects and their thirst for racing through their backgrounds and stories. From the same producer of America’s Next Top Model.

Border Wars, season premiere at 9pm on NatGeo

– NGC cameras were given special access to go on duty with CBP agents and officers as they use every means at their disposal — from high-tech stealth planes to basic wilderness skills — to track, catch and deport illegal immigrants in this docuseries. Every day thousands of men, women and children attempt to enter the United States illegally — some looking for work, some seeking a new life and others trying to smuggle drugs or other contraband.  Many will do whatever it takes, often risking their lives by crossing Arizona’s treacherous Sonoran Desert.  Now, follow the officers and agents of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as they scour the inhospitable landscape at one of the busiest border crossings in the country, seeking to fight terrorism and intercept illegal entrants from the air, on the ground and at the ports of entry.
